Beginner Wheel Course

Jan 7-Feb 4th, Monday&Wednesday 10am-12pm or 5-7pm

Our Beginner Wheel Course includes 8 classes that meet for 2hrs twice a week and includes 1 hour of private studio time after each class, plus access to 10 hours of open studio time each week to practice. In this class, you’ll learn the fundamentals: wedging clay, centering, throwing a cylinder, shaping forms, trimming, adding handles, and decorative glazing techniques. We focus on the cup form to teach all the core skills, and at the end of the class, we’ll celebrate with a gallery show and tea party to share and discuss your creations. 4 students per class.

Cost: 6200 MXN + clay 700 MXN for a 10 lb bag + firing fees per piece based on size H”xW”xD”=Xx1.5=Pesos

Mixed Level Wheel Course

After taking the Beginner Wheel Course continue learning with Intermediate/Mixed Level Wheel. Here you will learn to make bowls, throwing with more clay, making things the same, stacking, decorating with underglaze and more complicated glazing techniques. 2hrs each class, 8 classes total. Includes 10hrs of open studio time each week to practice. Class forms by student demand.

Cost: 6200 MXN + clay 700 MXN for a 10 lb bag + firing fees per piece based on size).

Handbuilding Course

Explore the core techniques of handbuilding—coil, slab, pinch, and slump molds. From functional kitchen tiles to contemporary wall hangings, the possibilities are endless. You’ll start by learning each technique, then gain the freedom to work independently with guidance from Kelly. This class is an excellent complement to wheel work, allowing you to combine both techniques and expand your creative practice. 2hrs each class, 8 classes total. Includes 10hrs of open studio time each week to practice.

Private One-on-One Classes

Tailored entirely to your goals, private classes allow you to focus on what you want to learn and create—whether that’s centering, throwing large pieces, making things the same etc.

Cost: 1600 MXN for a 2hr class. Clay included if recycling or 700MXN per 10lb bag. Firing fees per piece based on size.

Workshops

Our bi-monthly workshops focus on one specific project, from masks and shot glasses to holiday decorations and more. Each project is completed in 1–2 classes, and the cost includes instruction and all materials (firing fees are extra, based on the size of the piece). Workshops are designed for both kids and adults, making them a fun way to explore new techniques and create something unique in a short time.

Sip and Spin Date Nights

This fun date night is perfect for couples or friends. You and you partner will share a wheel and learn the basics of making a piece on the wheel. BYOB for extra fun and get muddy and silly while connecting creatively with your partner and making new friends. Choose one piece for painting with underglaze or leave it bare and the studio will glaze it for you. You will be notified when work is ready for pickup, about 4 weeks after the class. Sorry, no shipping available. Cost includes 2hr of instruction, all clay, tools, materials, trimming and glazing and firing of 1 piece.

Cost $1200 pesos per person. $250 for each additional piece fired.

*Due to the nature of clay and student technique sometimes clay cracks when drying or during firing or pieces blow up in the kiln all beyond the control of The Clay Studio. The Clay Studio is not liable for cracked or broken pieces or pieces that do not meet student expectations. No refunds or replacements pieces will be provided if final product does not meet student expectations. No refunds if you cancel your reservation but you can rebook for another Sip and Spin within 1 month of your original class date. Only 1 rebooking per canceled class.

Private Pottery Parties

Get your hands dirty and make some memories! Perfect for birthdays, bridal showers, or just a fun day with friends, you can throw clay on the wheel or create with handbuilding techniques. Kids and adults alike will love this messy, creative alternative to the usual beach day. For locals, we can fire your pieces so they’re ready to take home 4–6 weeks after the party.

Cost: 4 people (minimum) 1500MXN per person, 5-8 people 1200MXN per person, 8-12 people 1000MXN per person. Includes clay, underglaze paint and clear glaze firing of 1 piece up to 5”. Over 5” firing fees calculated by size (H”xW”xD”=Xx1.5=Pesos owed). Pieces available for pickup 2-4 weeks after party (sorry, no shipping available).

100 pesos per person discount if no work is fired. Full payment due to reserve the date. Full refund if canceled up to 1 week before the party. Cancellation 1 week to 2 days before the party 50% refund. Cancelation within 2 days of the party no refund,

Studio Memberships

Join our creative community and enjoy the freedom to explore and make during open studio hours 20 hours per week. A Beginner Wheel course is required before joining. Memberships are a 2-month minimum and include your own private shelf, access to our 4 wheels, slab roller, Skutt kiln, and cone 6 studio glazes.

At the studio, you’ll be part of a supportive, like-minded community—make new friends while working side by side, sharing ideas, and learning from each other.

Membership options:

  • Full Member: 2000 MXN/month-2 month minimum

  • Firing & Glaze Member: 1000 MXN/month

  • Day Pass for experienced potters: 800/day (4hrs)

Members purchase studio clay and use studio glazes for their projects.
